*How to become a Native American

This site is written by a member of The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, it was designed as news source for members that want to stay up to date on news regarding the Pokagon and to spread the message of our culture, rich in music and art.  To be able to explore the traditional ways of the Pokagon to the modern ways.  To be non political, our tribe is so much more than a casino or tribal government.  It is a tribe with a history and a culture that is not easy to search.  I wanted to make it easy for the old Pokagon and the new to hear and see the teachings of our elders.  The real teachers of how to be a Native American are no longer with us and the ones alive are growing old.  I encourage them to write so all will not be forgotten.  If you write we will find you.

I search for the things that matter to me, things like our elders teachings that teach us how to be a Native American and how to be a true Potawatomi like the ones many years ago.  My search for my culture is not done in vain, I came from a mother and grandmother who were and are nearly 100 % Potawatomi.  I have traced my family tree all the way back to the late 1700's and have studied many other family lines.  I am amazed at how the names I research are still here today, when I read new letters I see the names of family lines that I have spent hundreds of hours researching.  That is why I wanted to blog, to tell the story of the Pokagons, past and present, while studying I wanted to share my findings, that is why I blog.  To share the rich history of The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi.

It is the largest source of history of The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi on the internet.  It is Pokagon art, language and music that help defines us.  It is how we once lived that is our culture.  Frank Bush a Pokagon elder know longer with us wrote so he could share how to be a Native American, he will never be forgotten because he wrote, he will always be a source of who we are.

Want to see how we once lived?  Please read:  Frank Bush readings link
