Grant Money Given

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced that of the $32 million dollars given to American Indian tribes, that the only Michigan tribe to receive money would be Athens Township's Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi. They were given $240,000 to purchase two buses that will transport tribal members to events and medical appointments.

The tribe has 1,100 members, 650 of them live on the reservation. The money was given based on a tribes need for money.
