Nanabozho


Nanabozho is a spirit in Anishinaabe mythology and is part of Potawatomi storytelling, including the story of the world's creation. Nanabozho is the Objibwe trickster figure and culture hero. He is said to be able to most often change into a rabbit and is a trickster. When he turns into a rabbit he is called Mishaabooz ("Great rabbit or Hare") or Chi-waabooz (Big Rabbit"). He is said to have been sent by Mother Earth, by Gitchi Manitou to teach the Ojibwe, one of his first jobs was said to name all the plants and animals of the Earth, he is thought to be the inventor of fishing and hieroglyphs, and the creator of Mother Earth. Nanabozho is in many Potawatomi stories.
