President Obama's proposed budget for 2011 is requesting $4.4 billion dollars for Indian Health Services and police protection, an increase of 9 percent.  It remains unclear how the much of an impact that this will have directly on the Potawatomi, says the BattleCreek Enquirer.

The new budget introduces a emphasis on improving intergovernmental relationships and better energy initiatives.  Congress must still approve the new budget request, but congress did approve the 2010 budget without adding any amendments.

The Huron Band of Potawatomi accounted for $3.8 million of the 2008 budget,  $1.6 million was for Indian Health Services for the tribe alone.

While President Obama has done more for Native Americans than any other pesident since 1776, much stills needs to be accomplished in funding.
